WASHINGTON, D.C. – America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) released this statement on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announcement that Medicare Part D premiums continue to decline for beneficiaries in 2020:

Americans should be able to get the prescription drugs they need at a cost they can afford, especially seniors and people with disabilities who rely on Medicare. As consumers’ bargaining power, health insurance providers are committed to delivering on that promise, negotiating with drug makers to lower premiums and other costs for seniors and taxpayers.

Today, nearly 46 million Americans receive their prescription drug coverage through Medicare Part D because it offers both value and choice. Medicare Part D is a testament to a successful public-private partnership with a shared goal of reining in out-of-control drug prices. We will continue to work with all stakeholders to drive value for patients, ensure open and honest drug pricing, and make health care more affordable and accessible for everyone.
