Center for Policy and Research at America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP)
Now accepting applications for Spring 2010 Internships
America's Health Insurance Plans, a national trade association representing the health insurance industry, is seeking interns interested in enhancing their education and work experience. At AHIP, interns function within a supervised environment, and are given responsibilities that acquaint them with policy, research, and lobbying activities. Previous intern responsibilities at the Center for Policy and Research include conducting a survey on state external review programs, updating important studies and publications, and frequent visits to Capitol Hill for lobbying tours and briefings of interest.
Who Should Apply?
AHIP internships are appropriate for graduate students in fields related to health studies, economics, public policy, and related disciplines; recent graduates and undergraduates with strong research skills, experience and statistical and computer skills are also encouraged to apply.
Internships at AHIP are unpaid. It is preferred that students work full-time, but part-time applicants will also be considered. The Center will complete necessary requirements, such as evaluations or paperwork, for interns to receive academic credit for their work.
How to Apply:
To apply for an internship, or for further inquiries, email Christelle Chen at cchen@ahip.org with "Internship" in the subject line and the following items by Friday, August 7, 2009:
- A cover letter and/or statement (1-2 pages maximum) describing your particular areas of interest
- A resume
- A writing sample (not required, but recommended)
- An undergraduate/graduate transcripts (not required, but recommended)
What Past Interns Have Said:
"AHIP staff takes the time to make even the most basic tasks meaningful through explanation and information on finding additional topic information. As the leading voice of the Health Insurance industry, and a large trade organization, AHIP provides opportunities for the intern to see the development of industry wide opinion on policy and regulatory issues, the interaction between the members and association, as well as the public relations and publications side of the organization. At AHIP, the intern is surrounded by professionals, who often specialize in potential areas of intern interest, such as disability, long term care, and Medicaid to name a few."

Appreciation
"Thanks very much to Shelby Wolf for her contributions to the Center this winter (2007). She was with us during an especially busy time and proved herself very capable and self-directed, which made her a great addition to our team. Best wishes, Shelby, as you finish up at Ohio State University and in your health care policy future."
--Everyone at the Center for Policy and Research
"I wanted to express our appreciation for the great work of Bryan Ooley this spring and Kaylene Lewek this summer, and best wishes for their upcoming school years. The interns we've been getting have been extremely helpful and blessedly low-maintenance, for which we are deeply grateful."
